FORMIVA · MATERIALS / FIT / QUALITY

Materials, Fit & Quality

Connect material choices, fit approval and production checks through a clear set of physical references and recorded decisions.

Light fabric arranged in fluid folds.

01 · MATERIAL DECISIONS

Quality Starts With the Material

Choose fabric around the garment, its proportions and its intended use—not a fibre name alone. A soft dress, a structured shirt and a trouser waistband ask different things of a material.

Composition & structure
Confirm each separately.
Finished GSM
Confirm against selected fabric specification.
Drape, handfeel & opacity
Subject to physical swatch approval.
Stretch, recovery & shrinkage
Confirm by agreed test method.

03 · FABRIC APPROVAL WORKFLOW

Five decisions before production.

  1. 01

    Fabric brief

Define the garment, target fit, size range and intended use. Separate fibre composition from construction and performance.

  2. 02

    Swatch review

Review handfeel, drape, thickness and opacity in the intended layers. Confirm finished GSM against the selected fabric specification.

  3. 03

    Colour approval

Agree a physical reference and viewing conditions. Check shade consistency between fabric, thread, lining and trims.

  4. 04

    Performance confirmation

Agree methods and acceptance criteria for stretch direction, recovery, shrinkage and care. Composition alone proves none of these.

  5. 05

    Sample approval

Review the fabric in the actual garment. Record the approved sample, size-chart version and changes before production.

04 · FIT & MATERIAL

Proportions and fabric work together.

Drape affects how a garment follows the body; weight and seam bulk affect how it hangs. Stretch direction and recovery must be reviewed before setting ease or grading. Neither fibre percentages nor a photograph can establish those properties.

  • Separate body measurements, finished garment dimensions and wearing ease.
  • Review bust, upper arm, abdomen, hip and thigh balance through movement.
  • Test opacity under extension and intended layering; agree shrinkage and care requirements.

Custom development up to 8XL follows the approved size chart and pre-production sample; it is not a stock-size promise.

05 · QUALITY CHECKPOINTS

Clear scope. Recorded decisions.

01

Project specification

Style, use, measurement points and responsibilities.

Record who approves changes and how revised documents are identified.

02

Fabric & trim confirmation

Physical references for shell, lining, buttons, zips and labels.

Confirm composition per component, compatibility, colour and care.

03

Pattern review

Balance bust, upper arm, abdomen, hip, thigh and rise.

Consider grain, stretch direction, seams and intended wearing ease together.

04

Sample measurement

Compare finished garment measurements to the agreed chart.

Name measurement points, method, units and tolerances; do not substitute body measurements.

05

Fit & size approval

Review balance and comfortable movement in key sizes.

Agree standing, sitting and reaching checks, then record grading changes.

06

Pre-production reference

Identify the approved sample and specification version.

Resolve open decisions before production; a photograph alone is not an approval record.

07

In-line checks

Check construction, seams, measurements and branding.

Agree frequency, sample selection, defect handling and recheck responsibilities.

08

Final inspection & packing

Review appearance, measurements, labels and assortment.

Confirm inspection scope, packing instructions and release responsibility before dispatch.

06 · INSPECTION EVIDENCE

Define the evidence your order needs.

Agree the records to capture: swatch references, sample measurements, seam checks, finished-garment inspection and packing release.

Record the approved sample and matching material reference.
Record the approved sample and matching material reference.
